To provide a world wide network for Meditation teachers
of all styles and traditions of Meditation.

To protect and advance Meditations credibility as a valuable therapeutic healing modality, 
a self empowering personal development tool and a spiritual practice.

IMTA Code of Ethics & Professional Standards


IMTA Professional Standards

IMTA members are required to meet the professional standards as outlined in the IMTA Code of Ethics. They must also meet the minimum standards of experience and qualification as listed below.

In order to gain membership with IMTA the applicant must:
1/ Display a professional level of skill and knowledge regarding the traditions, practice and application of Meditation.
2/ Display a reasonable period of time spent in the study of Meditation.
3/ Display evidence of experience and qualifications gained in teaching Meditation.
4/ Regularly teach Meditation or in the case of colleges and training bodies, regularly conduct training courses for Meditation Teachers.
5/ Display an acceptable level of quality in the classes they offer and have reasonable pricing structures for the classes, courses and workshops they teach.
6/ Provide references from past students.
7/ Display a high degree of ethics and commitment to the delivery of quality Meditation training.
8/ Not have criminal record.

IMTA Code of Ethics

1.1. This Code of Ethics is the professional base standard expected of all members in order to preserve, protect and enhance the reputation of the International Meditation Teachers Association (IMTA.) its members and the reputation of Meditation in all its form, traditions and applications.

1.2. The Administrator reserves the right to call for amendment to the Code of Ethics as and when, it is deemed necessary. Should such be the case, all IMTA members will be offered the opportunity to vote on the proposed changes and will be informed of any changes made.

Professional Standards & Qualifications

2.1 All members must provide evidence of relevant qualifications and/or experience in teaching Meditation as required in the IMTA Application for Membership.


3.1 Client, student and public welfare shall take priority over self interest of members, their employees and colleagues at all times.
3.2 Confidentiality of client information must be observed at all times.
3.3 Members shall not behave in any manner that may bring IMTA, its members, their profession or the tradition or practice of Meditation into disrepute.
3.4 Members will, at all times maintain ethical standards and show politeness and consideration to their clients, students and the public and conduct themselves professionally so as to comply with the generally accepted standards of moral behavior and decency.
3.5 Should any member be found to have transgressed any of the said Codes of Ethics, their membership shall be revoked.


4.1 In no way will any member misrepresent their level of training, expertise, experience, or qualification.

Client Relationship

5.1 All members shall respect the client’s physical and emotional state and shall not abuse clients through actions, words or silence, nor take advantage of the teacher/student relationship in any way.
5.2 Members shall in no way participate in sexual activity with a client or student
5.3 In the event that a member and consulting client or student should wish to participate in an intimate sexual relationship, any professional services must be terminated and the client/student be referred to another teacher5.4 Members shall treat all clients and students with respect and consideration at all times.

Professional Conduct

6.1 In the event of a dispute arising between fellow members, the said members shall make every attempt to resolve differences.
6.2 In no way shall any member disparage, nor publicly criticize another member.
6.3 All members are responsible for obtaining and maintaining Public Liability Insurance and IMTA can take no legal or financial responsibility for its members.
6.4 All members are responsible for meeting the legal requirements to practice as a Meditation teacher in their own country. .


7.1 All members are permitted to display the IMTA logo on their advertising materials (printed and electronic.)
7.2 Members are not permitted to make changes to the IMTA logo
7.3 Members are not permitted to use the IMTA logo on any materials intended for sale without permission from the IMTA administrator.


8.1 Members are required to pay an annual membership fee to remain registered with IMTA. 
8.2 Any person representing themselves as an IMTA member who does not have current registration will be dealt with via the appropriate legal channels.
8.3 Monies gained through membership registrations will be used to pay administrative staff to manage and run IMTA. Profits gained over and above administrative cost will be donated to charities that are in line with IMTA's ethos in promoting and aiding freedom and peace worldwide.
